Session 54: Plantoids
This write up is based on Kay’s notes from our April 16, 2025 session. Since our group is scattered around the country, we use Discord for our voice communication and Roll20 for our virtual tabletop. Thanks to Kay for the proofreading and the screenshots.

While we were in town at Zelcor’s Ferry, Elron doled out 280 gp and one gold ring worth 50 gp to each party member, and gave an update on what other treasure pieces we have that haven’t been sold or converted to cash (i.e. gold wand, coronet, silver mace). We still had the cursed sapphire worth 5,000 gp we wanted to sell.
Kalgor the Gemcutter said he’d give us 200 gp
for it, but recommended
we take it to a major city if we wanted more than that. Ulman
Dark, the necromancer,
said he wanted nothing to do with it, but there’s a Lady Zhanna
who might be
interested in it. She lives somewhere in the Forest of Hope, near
the troll
fens, he thinks.
His wife, Kanndra,
often executes bounties for her. Many of the bounties are beyond
Kanndra’s
capabilities, so she has her bounty list posted on the door of
Ulman’s shop.
The necromancer said next time his wife is in town, he’ll mention
it to her and
see what they can do.

Hmm,
sounded like someone wants spell components.
Blaze and Breena converted their cash to gems and we went back
to the castle.
Blaze put her extra gems into the locked treasure chest in the
library
June 10
6 AM
We
had breakfast and then headed out to the Mouth of Doom and down
past the
Fountain of Pestilence. We had no encounters to speak of.
1:30 PM
We
stopped for lunch at the Last One Inn stables, which were very
clean. We didn’t go into
the inn itself, not
trusting that giant cockroach.
After lunch we took the southeastern tunnel to the plantation
that the
innkeeper had told us about on our previous trip.
7:30 PM

miles and 6 hours later we came to a large hole in the floor
with a ramp made
of rock and rubble that went down to a level below. The top of the ramp was on
the north side of
the large room, the bottom of the ramp leading down to the
south, with plants
below. There was a blue light glowing from the floor below,
coming from some of
the plants. Mixed fragrances rose to the upper floor; it looked
like many types
of cultivated plants were on the lower level.
Breena sent Rocky down the ramp first. It seemed that blue light
was coming
from large flowers. It looked like there was a lot of edible
food here we could
use to supplement our rations without going back to the castle
or using the
inn. The room below was generally square in shape.
Sinis,
Blaze and Artie were still at the top of the ramp, while Elron
and Parahelia
reached the bottom of the ramp. The round Plantoid moved and
attacked Parahelia
causing piercing damage with a tendril. We discovered later that
the tendrils
can connect it to the victim’s nervous system, but luckily, it
didn’t control
her; it then slammed its body into Parahelia, but bounced off
her armor.
Elron saw Parahelia being attacked by the ball-shaped Plantoid and used his sling, hit for major damage; his second shot missed and his sling was damaged.
Rocky
stayed where he was, at the base of the ramp on the stone floor.
Artie, at the top of the ramp, could see something moving through the vegetation; two floaters and two walkers. Sinis cast blur on himself.
A
floater (Plantoid 1) and big walker (Plantoid Servitor 1) moved
toward Breena.
Breena cast frostbite on the Plantoid Servitor 1, it
dodged. Blaze cast flaming
sphere and managed to damage it; the fire smelled
aromatic. The Plantoid
Servitor 1 stepped out of the heat, reached down and tried to
bite Breena’s
head off, but missed; then slammed her with its fist twice and
hit once.
Plantoid 1 moved behind Parahelia and waved its tentacles.
Parahelia, flanked by Plantoids 1 and 2, used her spiritual
weapon for
force damage to Plantoid 2 and hit.
Artie
cast fire bolt for major fire damage to Plantoid 2.
Elron used his sling on Plantoid Servitor 2 and vegetation splattered everywhere. Elron aimed at the second Plantoid next to Parahelia, hitting for more damage.
Blaze moved down the ramp for a better position. Artie shot at Breena’s attackers. Sinis moved toward the south and jumped off the ramp landing in the plants.
Breena
cast thunderwave at Plantoid Servitor 1 and threw it
against the wall,
hurting it, and backed away. Blaze moved forward and moved her
flaming
sphere into Plantoid Servitor 1 for more fire damage.
Artie shot his arrow
at it and pinned it to the wall causing more damage.
Plantoid 1 attacked the spiritual hammer to no effect.
Parahelia
used her longsword for slashing damage and her spiritual
hammer hit for
more damage; leaves went everywhere.
Plantoid 2 attacked Parahelia with a tendril but missed at first, then finally hit, and Parahelia was grappled by the tendrils.
Elron
hit Plantoid 1 twice with his sling for lots of damage, but
these things were
tough.
Artie moved and fired at Plantoid 1 for major damage. Sinis moved to the south end of the ramp and cast witch bolt on Plantoid 1, missed, slipped, and fell. Breena followed it up with magic missiles for damage; and Blaze hit it with more fire damage.
Plantoid 1 attacked Sinis and attempted to control him. Artie tried to improve Sinis’s attack, but he missed and got slammed by the plant for damage. Sinis attempted to prevent being grappled and hit him again for more damage.
Parahelia
was grappled and as she tried to break free, used her Spiritual
Hammer
on it and killed it.
Elron
hit Plantoid 1 with his sling and killed it.
The
party saw shadows moving at the east tunnel, a second wave of
plantoids were
coming, no doubt attracted by the sound of combat.
A new Plantoid (A) ran up to Breena; Sinis cast a witch bolt
on Plantoid
A for major damage. Plantoid B moved closer. Breena cast thunderwave
on
both Plantoids A and B; both took damage, especially B.
Blaze pushed her flaming sphere to cover both Plantoids A and B, but only B was damaged.
Plantoid
C moved toward Blaze. Plantoid Servitor A was moving in from the
tunnel to the
party. Plantoid C moved next to Blaze and was floating.
Parahelia moved toward
Plantoid C.
Parahelia cast guiding bolt, but missed; then cast Spiritual
Hammer
and hit.
Elron moved up to Blaze and hit Plantoid C twice, seriously hurting it.
Artie
attacked Plantoid C with his shortbow and killed it; it fell 10
ft down and
splattered on the ground below.
Plantoid
A was hit by witch bolt and flaming sphere. It
moved with the witch
bolt still attached to it; Breena ducked under the witch
bolt as it
passed over her. Plantoid A sent out a tendril to her and
missed, but slammed
into her, tried to grab her but missed, then hit her again and
finally grappled
her.
Sinis dropped his concentration on the witch bolt spell.
Plantoid
B moved to Artie. Plantoid Servitor A moved to Sinis. Breena got
loose and ran.
Blaze moved her flaming sphere into Plantoid A for more
fire damage.
Parahelia
realized Breena and Sinis were seriously injured and needed
healing, so she
cast aura of vitality on the entire group, luckily,
because Breena was
close to dying and regained her health just in time, when
Plantoid Servitor B
moved toward Breena and tried to bite her but missed, then
slammed and grappled
her, reducing her health again.
Parahelia cast a spiritual hammer attack on Plantoid
Servitor B with
force damage.
Plantoid Servitors D and E moved from the tunnel closer to the party.
