Session 44 - Teleport Rooms
The adventurers explore some teleporters and return to the Fountain of Pestilence.
This write up is from Kay's notes from our November 27, 2024 session. Since our group is scattered around the country, we used Discord for our voice communication and Roll20 for our virtual tabletop. Thanks to Kay for the screen shots.

Location: Mouth of Doom, Level 3
Saturday morning in town, Zelcor’s Ferry. Blaze, Breena and Elron were at Pye’s general store, where they bought the last three pairs of leather gloves on sale. After Elron’s disgusting rooting around in the heads of pestilence demons to cut out their eyes, Blaze suggested getting leather gloves to cut down on the zombie rot that they will inevitably get. Two gold pieces for the gloves, and Blaze ordered long sleeved gloves to be made and picked up later for 5 gp.
11 AM
Elron checked in with the armorer about his armor order.
2 PM
Back at Castle Calaelen, stashing gems that Blaze and Breena
bought in town, having
exchanged their gold pieces for lighter items.
5 PM
We returned to the Mouth of Doom.
The party followed Blaze’s map, through the chapel of green flame
to the 3rd
floor stairs.
Once back on the 3rd level, the group went east down
the hallway
past the pits and portcullis traps to the wall at the dead end
with the left
hand carved in bas relief. This was the one that Lark had touched
and been
transported to another room. Breena touched the hand and found
herself in darkness,
having the effect of flying through a tunnel for about 4 seconds.
Breena ended
up somewhere else, in a 30 x 30-ft room. Her eyes can see in the
dark and she saw
an old table in the middle of the room, it was intact but rotted.
There was a
skeleton with tattered white robes and a left hand missing on the
floor, and carved
handprints in bas relief on the south, north, east, and west
walls.
Blaze was the next person to touch the hand and arrived next to
Breena; her
quarterstaff lighting the room.

Back at the dead-end wall, the rest of the group saw Breena and Blaze surrounded by a swirl of dust and then they disappeared. Back when Lark went through, he gave Artie his sword which would magically reappear in Lark’s hand when called; so, when the sword disappeared from Artie’s hand, we knew Lark was alive on the other side. Not having that option anymore, Parahelia asked Elron to come back once he went through, after Sinis and Artie had gone; Elron reappeared in the hallway, went back and stepped out of the way. It felt like travelling a long distance. Sinis took the robes from the skeleton and the holy symbol for Solanus. Blaze marked the hands as North, East and West 3rd Level MOD with chalk.
Beena went to the hand on the east wall and three seconds later found herself in a 10 x10-ft room.
The room contained the remnants of an old and decayed bed, nothing else. There was one carving of a left hand on the wall behind her and she came back to the 30x30-ft room when she touched it. Blaze wrote “bed” in chalk on the floor in front of it.
Sinis folded the robes into a pillow, put it under the skull of the skeleton, and positioned the holy symbol under the hand of the skeleton.
Elron went to the north wall, pulled out his
sword and used
his right hand to touch the bas relief. Nothing happened. Elron
then touched
the carving with his left hand and found himself in a 10 x 10-ft
room with a
bed and a skeleton on the floor, its hands outstretched to the
stone hand.
There were scratch marks with old blood stains on the hand and
wall below it. The
skeleton was dressed in peasant’s clothes, not cleric’s robes like
the other. The
bones on both hands were damaged. Elron searched the body and
clothes, found
nothing, and touched the left-hand carving and came back. Blaze
wrote a description
in chalk in front of this one too.
Sinis cast his spell of detect magic; all the handprints
lit up with
conjuration school type. While he did that, Breena went back to
the east wall,
passed through to the bedroom again, and checked for secret doors,
but didn’t find
any.
Blaze went to the west wall hand carving; one second later found
herself in a
room. There was a ball of lightning in the middle of the room and
it fired a small
lightning bolt at her. She was injured by the shock.
She touched the hand carving on the wall behind her and teleported
back.
She was in the room long enough to get a good look at the room.
There were
three intact work benches in the middle of the room, an armchair
in bad
condition against the south wall, five cabinets on the west wall,
and two bas
relief carvings of left hands, one the north wall and one on the
east wall. The
ball of lightning was hovering above the middle work bench.
Sinis stepped to the east wall, going into the 10X10 ft room with the bed; found nothing in it that was magic but the handprint. Sinis then went to the north wall, went through to the 10 x 10-ft room with the skeleton; the only magic detected was the handprint. We calculated if we lined up and tried to rush the ball lightning, it would take ten seconds for all of us to get in to attack.
While Sinis was using his magic, Blaze healed herself back to normal. Blaze and the others began thinking of ways to get back into the cabinet room and around the ball of lightning. She had a wooden shield she could hide behind, had leather gloves, could cast shield for extra armor. Breena could cast invisibility; maybe wearing a holy symbol would prevent it from firing. The priests had to have some way of stopping it from attacking them. Blaze has dispel magic; maybe that would work.
Sinis asked Blaze about the ball of lightning
to see if it’s
familiar, but he didn’t recognize it. Sinis went through the north
wall and
looked for secret doors. He didn’t find any and came back.
We went back through the south hand carving to the hallway, and
moved down the
corridor to the west past the third level entrance. Then we turned
north down a
short hallway and continued back to the room of the toxic pool.
The demons’ bodies were not there; everything was gone including
the rats.
Blaze and some others began putting scarves around their faces and
nostrils
against the fumes. We heard the sound of running slime and the
fountain
splashing.
We went into the scribes’ room and Blaze went up to the handprint
on the north
wall next to the shelves. She touched it and traveled for 47
seconds, and materialized
in the ball lightning room again, only this time she appeared at
the north
wall. She cast shield
and it missed
her. She cast dispel magic on it and it dimmed, but didn’t
go out. She
hit the handprint on the north wall and returned back to the
scribes’ room. From
the time she left, it took her a minute and a half before she
returned. She told the
party what she had found.
The group continued into the room with the fountain and statue. As we entered, the liquid began to get agitated. Everyone prepared for battle as four large eggs floated to the surface of the slime with a splash.
Elron slung two stones at the closest one to
him and it hit
its leathery shell, and there was a cracking sound each time.

Blaze cast witch bolt, hitting the one closest to her, and popped it like a bubble.
Sinis cast acid splash on the one in the lower right, etching its surface. Artie hit the upper right egg with his fire bolt, burning it some. Breena cast magic missile at the upper right egg which splattered and sank. Elron shot more stones at the lower right egg and hit twice. Blaze missed with her witch bolt. Sinis hit with acid splash and killed it. Breena moved over.
Two more eggs came up. Elron reminded us that we wanted the eyes, so we should wait until they hatched next time.
