The Castle Calaelen Tower Battle

 The Adventurers finish taking the upper level of Castle Calaelen.

Location: Castle Calaelen, Upper Floor

Blaze healed Elron after the fight with the priestess and two skeletons.
 
When Elron tried to pick up the priestess’s war hammer, he got a shock.  Alain looked it over and picked it up with a cloth, putting it into his pack to examine later.

We strategized on how to deal with the three goblins in the center tower.  Breena said that Rocky the Squirrel didn’t see any shields when it looked into the room, but they were wearing armor. Blaze suggests using the squirrel to lure them out of their room into the hallway. Everyone thought that was a good plan.

Benaddar used mage hand to open the door for the squirrel. It went into the room to get their attention and lure them out.

One goblin was tearing out pages of a book with pictures on them and putting them into a stack; one goblin noticed Rocky and yelled “Dinner!”

They chased the squirrel out into the hall.

Elron had planned an ambush with two groups around both of the corners of the sleeping room. Benaddar went into that room for cover; Blaze followed him, but one of the goblins saw her before she could get into the room.

One goblin moved to the door where he spotted Blaze. Blaze hit him with acid splash; Artie shot an arrow and missed; Benaddar missed with his as well. Rocky continued straight down the hall and turned the corner at the end with two goblins chasing it.  As Elron and the rest around the corner at the end of the hall heard the goblins coming, the third goblin at the door to the room with Blaze and Benaddar, called out in goblin, “it’s a trap!”

Elron yelled, “Attack now!”

Breena stepped around the corner and saw two goblins running down the hall with their backs to her. She cast, lightning lure, hitting one. Elron ran out to the two goblins and attacked one with the glowing greatsword. Alain attacked the other one and killed it. The goblin next to him swung at Elron and hit with its scimitar. Another goblin ran back into the room they were in originally, and Benaddar chased after him and cast toll the dead, but it did not seem to affect the goblin.  It was running toward a rope leading through an opening in the floor.

Sinis cast acid splash at the goblin and Blaze ran into the room, trying to catch up to him.

Back in the hall, the injured Elron moved back as Alain swung at a goblin and missed. Paraselene attacked the goblin with a mace. The goblin swung at Paraselene but missed.

The first goblin back in the room grabbed the rope and a bell chimed below.

Benaddar cast toll the dead again and this time it killed the goblin.

Blaze looked out the arrow slit next to the hatch and watched the gnolls at the gate; they didn’t appear to have heard the alarm and were looking in the opposite direction, away from the tower; she kept an eye on them.

Artie was pointing an arrow at the hatch in the floor, the one with the ladder going down. Breena moved back from the goblin in front of her and cast blade ward. Elron produced a flame in his hands and Paraselene, noticing this, said “hold your action;” he did and she tossed oil onto the goblin. Elron then followed up with throwing the flame onto the goblin. The flames bbq him, killing him. Alain swung at his goblin and missed.

Back in the tower, Benaddar looked down the hatch with the ladder, “stay quiet. I’m looking down the hole.” He saw a goblin running toward the ladder and heard footsteps going away from the room downstairs.

Blaze waited with Sinis at the hatch where the dead goblin was covering the hole. Breena moved with her squirrel north of the sleeping room, staying well away from the fighting. Elron ran over to the hatch with Benaddar; Paraselene moved toward him. Benaddar heard a goblin on the ladder below.

Blaze, at the arrow slit, heard a set of double doors open below in the courtyard to the west of the tower. Breena walked around the sleeping room toward the tower. Elron waited at the ladder with a sword. Paraselene joined us in the tower.

A goblin came up the ladder and looked over the ledge, just in time for Artie to fire an arrow at his head, killing him and he dropped to the floor below. The goblin that ran out into the courtyard earlier shouted, “We’re under attack.”

Hearing that, one gnoll let out a loud call.

Sinis moved from his position over to another arrow slit and targeted the goblin in the courtyard with acid splash, but missed. Blaze hit the same goblin with her acid splash, killing him.

Elron yelled at the people still out in the hall to get into the tower, loud enough for the gnolls to look up at the arrow slits in the upper floor of the tower.

Breena and Alain ran into the tower and closed the door to the hallway. Alain moved to the hatch and looked out window to the east.

Elron looked down the hatch into the room below; it’s an octagonal room with a door open; no one is in the room, except the dead goblin at the base of the ladder.  Then he ran over to the other hatch with the dead goblin stuck in it, slid the body aside and looked down. It looked like a lunch room, no one was at the table and the door was open.

Benaddar moved to a forward arrow slit looking out onto the courtyard to aim at one of the gnolls. One of them shot an arrow at him, but missed. Benaddar casts toll the dead on it.

Sinis could see two more gnolls coming out of the southwest tower into the courtyard and pointed them out to the others. Blaze targeted the front gnoll with acid splash but missed.
